He likes to play pranks on others, but is nevertheless a good person who will help out his friends when they need it. Sunohara Youhei is his best friend. Although he hides it from most of his friends, he has a gloomy outlook on his life and the town he lives in and is known in his school as an apathetic delinquent alongside Youhei. His attitude gradually changes soon after he meets Furukawa Nagisa and ends up inspiring the girl to move forward with his kind words. He ends up helping Nagisa form the drama club and helps recruit members. The Fujibayashi sisters are in love with him. Prior to the story's beginning, he dreamed of being a basketball player, but a fight with his father, Okazaki Naoyuki, lead to his shoulder being injured and left him unable to fulfill this dream. Since then, his relationship with his father has soured and their interaction has become awkward and distant. Interacting with his father is painful enough for Tomoya that, after he befriends Nagisa, he prefers to stay in the Furukawa residence. But as much as he dislikes his father, he is not as different from him as he may like to think. He is voiced by Ito_Kentarou (DVD bundled with PS2 game), Nitta_Yuuichi (Tomoyo After RPG mode), Nojima_Kenji (drama Cd and Toei film), and Nakamura_Yuuichi (TV series). For Nakamura, this was his breakthrough role for anime voice acting.
